Rules of conduct in the gym

Hello everyone. This is the first time you came to the gym and do not know where to start and how to behave?

Then I offer you a set of rules of conduct in the gym . I found them on the Internet and decided to share them with you.

So you’re determined to go to the gym. Wonderful! However, among the neighbors in the garage and summer cottage, there was not a single personal trainer who could conduct a training educational program with you? This means that you will have to catch him already in the hall itself. Moreover, you do not need the first coach you come across, you need a good and competent specialist, therefore, if you did not find him according to the recommendations, then at first you will have to figure it out on your own.

And for this you need to get together and take root in an unfamiliar environment – a gym, get comfortable there and watch. Ready? Then equip and go.

You put on a black bandana with the inscription “Anarchy”, kachkovskie pants with large pink and white stripes, a sweatshirt with a wide neckline to demonstrate the incredible trapezius muscle (albeit not now, but soon the trapezoid will be there). As well as high police boots al-la SWAT and cool orange fitness gloves with “cut-off fingers”. The remote engine start button is pressed and your Porsche Cayenne outside the window is ready to take the owner to the first training session.

Awesome! Now shoot all this clowning, if you don’t want to look stupid, turn off your pet’s engine and let’s talk about what you need and can wear in the gym (at least for the first time), what is permissible and what is better not to do in such a serious and a reputable institution to become your own one day.

Gym is a unique place in our world. People come here to improve their body and well-being. Many fitness centers have a list of rules of behavior for visitors, but there is also an unwritten code. The purpose of our conversation today is to introduce you to both.

Gym Code of Conduct generally aims to provide attendees with a safe and comfortable exercise experience while maintaining equipment in good working order. They are usually simple and straightforward.

1. Put the weights back in place

As a joke
Use in your exercises as many pancakes as possible from barbells and dumbbells, overlay yourself with them so that everyone can see – the guy is serious, he lacks a pair of dumbbells and one barbell, he needs ALL the iron in this gym. After finishing your workout, just leave, let the visitors, amazed by your performance, dismantle this whole mountain themselves – well, in extreme cases, they will call a cleaner.

Seriously
Returning your work equipment is a courtesy to whoever will use it after you. Not everyone will like or can (there are a lot of women among us) to remove ten 20-kilogram pancakes from a leg press machine. Return the dumbbells to the rack in their designated place and always remove weights from the machine unless the person next to you asks to leave them in place.

2. Don’t drop weights

As a joke
After finishing the approach, exhale noisily, imitating a lion’s roar, and bang the dumbbells or barbell on the floor. Everyone should know – HE IS ALREADY HERE!

Seriously
Throwing weights on the floor can injure yourself or others and damage equipment. In addition, such a noisy end to the set is, in most cases, a desire to attract the attention of others. Lower weights to the floor as gently as possible and only drop if there is a clear threat of injury.

3. Dress correctly

As a joke
Dress so that you will be noticed. Yes, yes – black bandana, striped pants…. Beach slates on bare feet are also suitable – after all, everyone will be immediately dazzled by a pedicure with rhinestones from Swarovski. People should forget about their training and watch in admiration as this MAN stirring a lot of iron around him.

Seriously
Dress according to two parameters – so that it is comfortable for you and that it is convenient for others. A simple T-shirt, simple sweatpants, and – here’s an exception – good running shoes. Shoes should be stiff soles with a slight heel lift and high enough to stabilize the ankle. This will come in very handy, for example, in barbell squats.

4. Wipe off sweat

Jokingly
Fill all the benches in the gym with your brutal sweat. You are a seasoned jock, so with sweat you also have everything very matero.

Seriously
You will notice that many come to workout with a small towel. Wipe the bench after you, or better yet, lay him on the bench before approaching. After all, you want her to lie on the sweat of other people, so you shouldn’t give them such a “gift” either.

The unwritten laws of the gym are of course unknown to novice athletes. There are many of them, and they are not always what you might expect …

1. Conversations

As a joke
Walk up to the person squatting with a barbell, stand right in front of him and encourage him: “It should be deeper, brother, deeper.”

Seriously
Don’t talk to a person in the middle of their set. This is very distracting, and most likely he will not listen to you anyway. Wait for the end of the approach, and then ask your question.

2. Let others join you

As a joke
If someone asks your permission to work out together on this machine, refuse immediately. It’s too early for him – “the milk on his lips hasn’t dried”.

Seriously
Refusing is simply impolite. The exception is when it interferes with your workout, for example, you have to change weights too much or you have a program with very short breaks between sets.

3. You are not transparent

As a joke
When you see a man sitting in front of a mirror to perform high-quality barbell presses with good technique control, stand directly between him and the mirror and carefully examine your complexion.

Seriously
Walking or standing in front of the person performing the set interferes with their concentration. People can look in the mirror for better balance and shape, especially during overhead presses, squats, deadlifts, and more.

4. Ask for permission

As a joke
Do not hesitate to go to any equipment or machine and start your set, regardless of the number of people currently using the same machine. You have a membership – and everything in the gym is ONLY FOR YOU.

Seriously
Always ask permission to share equipment already in use. It is impolite to just sit on a bench or machine that another person has just got off from. Ask: “Are you finished?” Do not ask someone whose working weights are very different from yours in one direction or another to work with the equipment, because it will take too long to change weights between sets. Ask him how many sets he has left and wait for the set to complete, or choose a different machine and exercise.

5. Lively Conversations

As a joke
Try to throw a couple of phrases with everyone in the gym. After all, everyone should receive at least a fraction of your favorable attention.

Seriously
Don’t bother people with your conversations. Usually, they come to the gym to work out, not talk, and are completely focused on themselves. Chat after your workout if you feel like someone needs it.

6. Don’t use a lot of equipment at once

As a joke
Set the weights on at least three machines and do one set on each, going from one to the next. You can also grab a couple of barbells with different weights – for a more complete impression.

Seriously
Do not take up a whole row of benches or machines, unless the gym is empty and no one else needs them.

7. Insurance

As a joke
As soon as you notice that one of the trainees has a hard repetition, immediately jump up and shout “Come on, come on, come on!” and start helping him squeeze that damn barbell.

Seriously
You shouldn’t automatically run up to someone and help just because, in your opinion, he has problems. Heavy repetitions are most productive and can ruin a person’s approach. Prepare to come to the rescue IF asked, but not by yourself.

8. Help abuse

As a joke
When preparing to press the bar while lying on the bench, load on it as many kilograms as only two port movers can handle, and immediately ask someone to help you master ten reps. In this case, do only two – let the rest pull himself.

Seriously
Don’t ask anyone to help you if you can’t handle the weight yourself from the beginning. Since the helper gets a powerful low back workout while you are doing the bench press, then you should re-evaluate your working weights.

9. Comfort zone

As a joke
If you notice a pretty lady doing hand raises with dumbbells while lying on the bench, put your bench closer to her and do the breeding too. Let your arms (and dumbbells) gently intertwine at the bottom of each rep.

Seriously
Do not place your bench too close to the benches of other exercisers. Some exercises require a lot of workspace, and many ladies exercise quite seriously and you can interfere with them.

10. Re-adjust weight

As a joke
If you work with another person on this or that simulator, then after finishing your set, just get up and leave. Let the colleague return the stoppers to the position he needs.

Seriously
After completing the set on the simulator, return the stopper to the position in which the previous person worked. This will demonstrate your familiarity with gym etiquette and basic courtesy.

11. Be tactful

As a joke
Noticing how some not very large guy strainingly finishes lifting biceps with an empty bar, get closer to him, screw a look “from top to bottom” into him and at the end of the set, uterinely cackle, saying in a fatherly way: “You would have at least hung something on the neck for decency, sonny.”

Seriously
It’s ugly to laugh at others just because they can’t lift as much as you do. Remember, there will always be someone who will lift more than you.

12. Help

As a joke
If someone asks for help, it is important to say that you are not working with such small weights – you should not waste energy.

Seriously
If someone asks for help, do not refuse. If you feel that you cannot – for example, if too much weight is used – feel free to warn the person about it.

13. Shout

As a joke
While practicing the pinching power of the hand by intense squeezing of a matchbox, growl like a wounded tiger. Everyone within a kilometer radius should be dumbfounded by the monstrous intensity of your efforts.

Seriously
Try not to shout too much during work, it can embarrass others, and sometimes just make you laugh. It is sometimes necessary, but if you scream while doing wrist curls, then something is wrong with you.

14. Sound volume

As a joke
On the phone or with any of those present, speak so loudly that even the cleaning lady in the back room can hear what a wonderful lady you could not yesterday…. catch up.

Seriously
Do not have too loud conversations around the exercising people. Believe me, you are not as interesting to others as you think.

17. Perfumes

As a joke
Find the most masculine deodorant in your opinion and apply it to all parts of the body where you can reach. People should invariably freeze from the unearthly mixture of the smells of your sweat and expensive perfume.

Seriously
Do not use perfume before training – the resulting mixture may not smell very pleasant. If you train seriously, you still can’t avoid the smell of sweat. Better just shower before the gym. And over time, when you normalize your diet, your smell will noticeably improve.

Conclusion

You are a beginner. So be a beginner – there is no other way. You cannot become different overnight, you can only pretend. But the effort isn’t worth the benefits. Dress like a beginner, train like a beginner, behave like a beginner, feel free to ask and learn. Remember: everyone in this gym was once in your position, and each of them will understand and appreciate your efforts in mastering a new field of activity.
