Today I walked from work past the local basement rocking chair and drew attention to the abundance of smoking guys on the porch of the gym. I don’t know what they think or if they think at all.
I will not hide, before I myself was one of them. To be completely honest, I tried my first cigarette at 13 years old and started smoking systematically at 15 . At first it seemed to me a cool occupation, then it began to cause discomfort in some moments, and after 8 years of smoking, health problems began to appear. I got headaches and constant nausea in the morning, lost my appetite, and decreased resistance to exercise. I’m not even talking about the constant unpleasant odor and negative impact on male strength. In general, there was a clear realization that it is necessary to quit this addiction.
This is where the most important question arose: How to quit smoking? I have heard many times: “Quitting smoking is easy, I myself have quit a thousand times.” This is, of course, a joke, but there is some truth in it. I’ve tried to quit smoking more than once. It all started with nicotine gum, then I tried various patches and pills. All of these methods were ineffective. After a couple of weeks of torment, I again returned to my addiction and greedily smoked a long-awaited cigarette.
What a tough nicotine free week. I avoided communicating with smoking colleagues at work, stopped going to the cafeteria with everyone for the company, in short, I did everything not to break off. And the most unpleasant thing is that I hated myself for my unpleasant situation and the inability to change it.
I am sure that there is no smoker in the world who would not want to get rid of this addiction. Many of them say that they like smoking and do not want to quit. But this is just an excuse for their lack of will and weakness. It makes no sense to list all the negative effects of smoking, especially on the athlete’s body. More details can be found here.
So how did I quit smoking?
I do not consider myself a super strong-willed person, but, nevertheless, quitting smoking for me was enough easy and painless . Don’t think of it as an advertisement, but I really kicked the habit by studying Allen Carr’s The Easy Way to Quit Smoking . I must say that I was extremely skeptical and did not believe in successfully getting rid of addiction after reading a book, but the recommendations of my comrades and positive reviews made me read it.
I read it for a week, after which I completely forgot about cigarettes. 7 years have passed, and I am still happy that I have not the slightest desire to pick up a cigarette. I am calmly in the company of smokers and look in their direction with some regret.
It may sound harsh, but if you smoke, then you are an idiot, and if you smoke and seriously play sports, then you are an idiot in a cube. My advice to you, quit smoking today, do not delay until tomorrow. Tomorrow there will be a thousand more reasons to postpone parting with an addiction for the next day, month or year.
